State House Passes Sankey Bills to Honor Local Servicemen
3/15/2019
HARRISBURG – Legislation that recognizes the contributions of two Cambria County servicemen has advanced to the state Senate, according to the author of the bills, state Rep. Tommy Sankey (R-Clearfield/Cambria).

“Should they become law, these two pieces of legislation will help keep alive the memory of two men who admirably served our country and died with honor in doing so,” Sankey said.

The following two bills were both passed unanimously by the House on Tuesday:

House Bill 65 would designate the Route 3047 bridge over the south branch of Blacklick Creek in Blacklick Township, Cambria County as the Private First Class Steve L. Klosz Memorial Bridge.

PFC Klosz served our country during World War II and was killed in action on Sept. 11, 1943. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the American Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal for his service.

House Bill 66 would designate the Peg Run Road bridge over the west branch of the Susquehanna River in Susquehanna Township, Cambria County as the United States Army Sergeant Scott O. Henry Memorial Bridge.

Sergeant Henry served in the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He heroically rescued an injured soldier from the field during the Battle of La Drang at the cost of his own life.

Sankey also reminds Cambria County veterans that a representative from the American Legion will visit his Hastings district office this Tuesday, March 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“This is a great opportunity for the men and women who serve and have served our country to get answers to their individual questions and discuss issues such as pensions, compensation, educational opportunities and health care,” added Sankey.

The office is located at 264 Haida Ave., Hastings.
